Show Him Your Support: Customize a Ribbon!

I’ve had close relatives of mine serve in the U.S. armed forces throughout the years. Sometimes they are gone for a couple of months; sometimes I hadn’t seen them for years. But no matter how many times I witness a solider leave, I’m always so relieved and excited once they return home.

To show my support for my brothers and friends I decided to present them with customized military ribbons upon their return. I began this tradition when I was still a child. Of course, my ribbons have significantly improved since then. When I was only about 9 years old, my two uncles entered the U.S. military. I was terrified they would never return after overhearing relatives share horror stories and watching the nightly news on television. So once they returned several months later, I decided I wanted to show them how much their family missed them while they were away.

My parents agreed it was a noble idea, and so they helped me pick out all the products I needed to create my customized military ribbons. A few days after their return, I presented my uncles with my homemade tokens, and I can’t even begin to express the looks on their faces. It was a very emotional experience, and nothing can take that memory away.

To this day, my two uncles still have their military ribbons on display in their homes. And they have since been given many other commemorative items honoring their service to this country. But I like to think my customized ones maintain a special place in their hearts.

Today, I no longer have to construct my customized ribbons using a glue stick and cheap fabric. Most commemoratives manufacturers offer customized pieces; you can design your ribbon and place your loved one’s name on it. It’s such a thoughtful way to show our military men our love and support.
